National Freshwater Data Strategy Webinar: Data Governance for Informed Decision-Making — January 28 2026 

The Canada Water Agency (CWA) is developing a National Freshwater Data Strategy  to improve how freshwater information is organized, stored, and shared across Canada. This session is meant to preview the new strategy, developed with partners, stakeholders, and rights holders. Key components and platforms will be presented and opportunities provided for dialogue about how Canadians can access and use freshwater data for informed decision-making.

This bilingual national webinar with simultaneous translation will be hosted by Our Living Waters and will feature experts from the Canada Water Agency (CWA), the Canadian Institute for Health Information, and the Office of Canada’s Chief Science Advisor who will present examples of federated data governance and data stewardship.

Once implemented, the Strategy will make it easier for Canadians to find and access freshwater data, as well as use and combine data from various sources. This, in turn, will strengthen decision-making and knowledge generation and will help keep fresh water safe, clean, and well-managed.
